Toll discount from 17 highways during designated time of Chinese New Year.

Kajang - 17 highway in the country are to offer free ride or discounts ranging from 5% to 20% at designated date and time during Chinese New Year
While making the announcement, Minister of Works, Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said, motorists using the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway or East-Coast Expressway (Phase 1) from 11.30pm till 4.30am the following day on Feb 11 (28th day of the 12th month on Year of Ox of Chinese Lunar Calendar) and also Feb 15 (2nd day of the first mont in Year of Tiger of Chinese Lunar Calendar) will enjoy a free ride.
Other highways offer 5% to 20% discount
He said, other highway companies are offering 5% to 20% discount from February 10 to 12, 14 to 17 and also 19.
"Some highway companies are offering 5% to 10% discount, but what is important is not the quantum of discount, it is their care for the society; there are 26 toll concessionaires in the country, some are unable to give discount, it os their financial standing; I hope that they will offer toll discount during other festive seasons in future, especially during the Merdeka Day."
He said these today after officiating Ministry of Works Road Safety Campaign and 2010 New Year Luncheon at the Kajang Selatan Toll Plaza. He said, during the Operasi Sikap 21 to be enforced from Feb 8 till 22, Ministry of Works will also be taking steps to support those campaigns.
Kuala Lumpur - Toll concessionaire of East Cost Expressway, MTD Group's CEO Datuk Azmil Khalid said, while giving away toll free angpow to Malaysians, the company is also launching Smart Traffic Guideline to tell motorists how to avoid congestion time of highway.
He said in a statement that, the guideline will recommend motorists to travel at different time for them to plan their traveling schedule.
He said, this is the second time the company is offering free ride at designated time during festive season, the first time was during Hari Raya in September last year. The public who has doubt are urged to call its 24 hour hotline at 09-547 9111
